In conjunction with the State of São Paulo’s Department of Education and private initiative and support entities, USP’s Pro-Rectory of Research has developed a Program for Scientific Pre-Initiation aimed at connecting pupils from State (public) High Schools to the University of São Paulo, through research.
Since its first year, in 2009, the Scientific Pre-Initiation Program has received prizes and been praised by then State Governor José Serra. “This is an extraordinary experience. The best pupils from the State High Schools have had a scientific pre-initiation – something they will never forget. I believe that many of them will turn out to be scientists and researchers. We only need to see their enthusiasm and satisfaction at having attended the course and received their pre-initiation certificate.”
Among the students awarded were Alissa Paschen, Mariliane Andrade dos Santos and Mayara Ribeiro, winners in the Human Sciences category, producing a study on the cultural output of the 1930s and 70s. These students participated in the ECA USP Scientific Pre-Initiation group of researchers under the supervision of Professors Maria Cristina Castilho Costa, Mayra Rodrigues Gomes and Roseli Fígaro Paulino, and with the help of researchers from the Research Center on Communication and Censorship, in particular Professor Ferdinando Martins.
